CHOCOLATE TOP CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. solid vegetable shortening
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 (No. 3030) applesauce
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts
3 tbsp. sugar

Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs, one at a time and vanilla. Sift flour, salt, soda and cocoa. Add flour mixture alternately to creamed mixture with applesauce. Pour into a greased floured 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips, nuts and sugar over top. Bake 35 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
