DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. shortening (preferably butter)
2 c. sugar
1 c. cream
3 eggs
Vanilla
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
3 1/2 c. flour

Mix. Let stand in refrigerator overnight. Roll out and fill with date filling.

FILLING: Mix 3/4 cup sugar with 1 tablespoon flour. Add 1 cup chopped raisins or dates and 1 cup boiling water. Cook until thick. Jam may be substituted for filling.
