SOUTHERN CORNBREAD 
1 1/2 c. water ground meal
1 tsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
Dash of onion salt
8 tbsp. of oil
1 egg (optional)
3/4 to 1 c. water

Combine meal, sugar, salt and onion salt in a bowl. Mix in water. Then add egg if desired. Mix well.

Pour oil in rectangular metal pan in 400 degree oven until hot. Pour 2 tablespoons of hot oil into batter and mix well. Batter should be consistency of loose cooked cereal.

Pour batter into hot pan. Cook at 400 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until brown and crisp on top. Serve hot or at room temperature.
