LEMON NUT BREAD | |
1/4 c. butter, softened 3/4 c. sugar 2 eggs, slightly beaten 1 tbsp. grated lemon peel 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 3/4 c. milk 1/2 c. chopped walnuts 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. lemon juice Cream butter and the 3/4 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs and lemon peel; beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in walnuts. Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake 1 hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Combine the 2 tablespoons sugar and lemon juice; spoon over hot bread. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Makes 1 loaf. |
