COCOA BROWNIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla until well blended. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients; stir into shortening mixture. Stir in nuts. Spread in a well-greased 8-inch by 8-inch by 2-inch pan.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Cool; cut into 2-inch squares.

Makes 16 brownies.
