VERMONT MAPLE COOKIES 
3/4 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. dark maple syrup
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with maple syrup; blend well. Fold in nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheets. Top each with walnut. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 3 dozen cookies.
