CHEESE CUSTARD 
4 slices buttered bread, cubed
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 lb. cheese, cut or grated
1 1/2 c. milk
Few grains of pepper

I often add cubed ham or a can of tuna fish, drained.

Butter a baking dish. Put bread in layers with cheese and ham or tuna fish, if desired. Beat eggs, add milk and seasonings. Pour over. Set baking dish in hot water. 350 degree oven. Bake until custard is firm in center, about 45 minutes.
