BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda, add to the buttermilk and stir well
4 eggs
1 tsp. orange extract
1 tsp. lemon extract

Cream the shortening and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time beating well. Add flour and salt, equal parts with the buttermilk, ending with the buttermilk and soda mixture. Add extracts. Pour into a well oiled tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or more.

Good as is, better with a lemon sauce. Also a glaze of orange juice and rind and powdered sugar is excellent.
