APPLE PIE WITH CHEDDAR PASTRY | |
5 to 6 apples 1/2 to 2/3 c. white or brown sugar 1 tbsp. cornstarch 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/8 tsp. nutmeg 1/8 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. butter CRUST: 1 2/3 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. (4 oz.) finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese 1/2 c. butter, chilled 1/4 c. ice water Sift flour and salt, stir in cheese and mix. Dice butter, working into flour until resembles cornmeal. Sprinkle in water, 1 tablespoon at a time. Roll on lightly floured surface. Fill. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce to 350 degrees for another 35 to 40 minutes. |
