NO-ROLL SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream sugar, butter, egg and vanilla together until light and fluffy. Sift flour, cream of tartar and soda together. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture gradually, mixing well after each addition. Pinch off dough; form into walnut-sized balls. Roll balls in additional sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet; flatten with bottom of greased or sugared glass.

Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Dough may be chilled before forming into balls, if desired. Yield: About 3 dozen cookies.
