MOM'S RICH, GOOEY AND GOOD | |
1 (6 oz.) can evaporated milk 1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels 1 pkg. German or Swiss chocolate cake mix 3/4 c. melted butter 1 c. chopped walnuts 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces In top of double boiler, stir together 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk and caramels; cook, stirring often, until the mixture is smooth. Set aside. Stir together cake mix, butter, remaining evaporated milk and nuts. Press half of the dough into bottom of greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate pieces on baked dough and top with melted caramel mixture. Crumble remaining dough over top. Return to oven and continue baking 14-18 minutes. Cool and cut into bars. Makes about 2 dozen. |
