MOLASSES GINGER COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. granulated sugar (set aside)

Cream brown sugar, shortening and egg. Add molasses and mix well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Mix until flour is thoroughly worked in. Chill dough 1 hour. Dough will still be slightly sticky. Roll into two inch balls, then roll balls in granulated sugar and flatten with the bottom of a glass. Bake on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 2 dozen cookies.
