APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 1/4 c. tart applesauce

Cream shortening and sugar until light. Sift dry ingredients together. Dust raisins and nuts with about 1/2 cup of the flour mixture. Add remaining flour to first mixture, alternately with applesauce, mixing until smooth. Stir in raisins and nuts. Pour into 9x5x3-inch loaf pan, lined on bottom with waxed paper. Bake in 325 degree oven about 1 hour.
