BAKER'S DOZEN COOKIES | |
3 c. sifted flour 1 1/4 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. butter 2 eggs 6 tbsp. milk 1 tsp. grated lemon rind Sift flour, 1 cup sugar (save 1/4 cup for topping), baking powder, salt, soda and nutmeg into a large bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until crumbly. Beat eggs slightly with milk in small bowl; stir into flour mixture; mix well (batter will be thick). Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 4 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet; flatten with spatula dipped in water to make 3 inch rounds; sprinkle lightly with mixture of remaining 1/4 cup sugar and lemon rind. Bake in moderate oven 350 degrees for about 15 minutes or until browned at edges. |
