CHEESE STOLLEN | |
6 tbsp. sugar 2 cakes yeast 1/2 lb. butter 3 eggs 1 c. sour cream 5 c. flour FILLING: 3 (8 oz.) pkgs. cream cheese 3 egg yolks 3 tsp. vanilla 9 tbsp. sugar Put yeast and sugar together in a cup with no liquid. Melt butter and add eggs, sour cream and half of the flour. Then add yeast and rest of flour. Stir by hand when necessary. Chill overnight. FILLING: Soften cream cheese and add the rest of the ingredients. Divide chilled dough into 6 portions; roll out to a rectangle approximately 11 x 14 inches. Put 1/6 of filling in middle of dough with rectangle placed horizontally. Lap sides over the filling. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and let rise 1 hour. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or glaze, if desired. NOTE: This recipe makes 6 Stollens; great to freeze. Great as gifts. |
