ENGLISH PASTRY 
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. hot water
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 egg yolk, unbeaten

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well shortening, hot water, lemon juice, and egg yolk; stir into flour mixture. Chill. Pat out 3/4 of pastry to line 8x11 inch casserole dish. Fill with favorite stew and top with reminder of pastry, rolled to fit. Bake 25 minutes at 425 degrees.
