STEAK MARINADE
1 c. soy sauce
1/4 c. Gravy Master or Kitchen Bouquet
2 cloves garlic, sliced
2 tsp. Beau Monde; optional
1 lg. onion, coarsely chopped

Marinate steak in above, refrigerate 24 hours before barbecuing. This is very salty. It is better to use 1 inch steaks, or if using thinner steaks to cut back on the soy sauce.

Steak Marinade

This is (supposedly) the Cliff's Elbow Room steak marinade (Long Island, NY). They are famous for their steaks and this appeared in a few local cookbooks/newspapers back in, say..the 70s? I have it in 1 of my grandmothers cookbooks and have made it once and didn't think it tasted anything like their recipe (I've been eating there for more than 3 decades, since I was a child). I don't know if they deliberately threw out a dummy recipe to keep people off the scent of their closely guarded famous marinade or I made it wrong but am going to try it again. While I love Beau Monde, Elbow Room doesn't have even a hint of celery in their steak marinade so who knows? I actually think my recipe says "Accent or Beau Monde" and I used the latter. Next time I'm trying Accent and think that will make a difference.
