TURNIPS AU GRATIN | |
2 lb. turnips, peeled & sliced 1/4" thick 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. whipping cream 1 tsp. dried whole savory 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 c. cooked ham, cut into julienne strips & divided 1 1/2 c. (6 oz.) shredded Swiss cheese 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs 2 tbsp. butter Place turnips and salt in a saucepan; cover with water and bring to a boil. Cover and cook over medium-high heat 5 minutes; drain and set aside. Combine whipping cream, savory and pepper; set aside. Place 1/3 of turnips in a greased 2 quart casserole. Top with 1/3 cup ham and 1/3 cup whipping cream mixture. Repeat procedure with remaining turnips, ham and whipping cream mixture. Top with cheese and bread crumbs; dot with butter. Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Yield 6 servings. |
