HOMEMADE PIZZA | |
1 c. warm water 1 pkg. dry yeast 1 tbsp. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. salt 2-3 tbsp. corn oil 3 c. unbleached all-purpose flour Pour water into large bowl. Sprinkle in yeast, sugar, salt and oil. Add 1 1/2 cups of flour and beat until smooth. Add remaining flour or enough to make a stiff batter. Turn onto floured board and knead about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl and turn bottoms up, cover and let rise in warm place until double in bulk (approximately 40 minutes). Punch down and divide in half. Spread onto 2 ungreased pizza pans. Add sauce and toppings. Bake 400 degrees 20-25 minutes. While dough rises, prepare sauce. PIZZA SAUCE: 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce 1 tsp. oregano 1/2 tsp. sugar 1/8 tsp. garlic powder Dash Tabasco sauce Dash crushed red peppers Minced onion to taste Mix together and let sit while dough rises. For zestier sauce use more spices. Top with family favorites. Hamburger or sausage must be precooked. Always top with final cheese 3-5 minutes before removing from oven so it doesn't become tough. |
