PEANUT BUTTER-OATMEAL BARS 
2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. peanut butter
3 tbsp. shortening
1 beaten egg
1 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. quick-cooking rolled oats
Peanut Butter Frosting

Stir together flour, sugar, soda, and 1/8 teaspoon salt; cut in peanut butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix egg, milk, and vanilla; add to flour mixture with oats. Mix well. Spread in lightly greased 8 x 8 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool; spread with Peanut Butter Frosting. Cut into bars. Makes 24.

PEANUT BUTTER FROSTING: Combine 3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon softened butter, and 1 tablespoon peanut butter. Blend in enough milk (2 to 3 teaspoons) until frosting is of spreading consistency.
