BATTER BREAD | |
1 c. milk, scalded 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. salt 2 tbsp. butter, softened to room temp. 1 c. warm water 2 pkgs. active dry yeast 4 1/4 c. unsifted flour Mix milk, sugar, salt and butter; cool to lukewarm. Mix warm water and yeast n large bowl, add milk mixture. Stir in flour and beat vigorously (about 2 minutes). Add flour in a little at a time. When all is in beat again on medium speed or for 2 minutes. Cover, let rise 40 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Stir batter down and beat 1/2 minute by hand. Divide batter and put in 2 well greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pans. Bake 40-50 minutes or until brown. Turn loaves out and allow to cool before slicing. |
