2 c. med. chopped walnuts 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. lemon juice 1 lb. filo dough 1 lb. unsalted butter, melted Combine nuts, sugar and lemon juice. Take two filo sheets and brush lightly with melted butter. Keep layering the sheets even more than two at a time and brush with butter until half of the sheets are done. Spread nut mixture evenly in pan. Then continue layering buttered filo on top until the other half is done. Use all the butter. Cut in diamond shaped pieces. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour or until golden brown. Then take out, pour cold syrup over Baklava, being sure the dough is well saturated. SYRUP: 2 c. sugar 1 c. water Couple drops lemon juice Combine sugar, water and lemon juice in saucepan. Boil over medium heat for about 10 or 15 minutes or until slightly viscous (225 degrees). Before removing from heat add a little more lemon juice and let come to a boil. Remove from fire and cool. |
