SWEDISH MEATBALLS 
6 slices white bread
6 slices whole wheat bread
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1 egg
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 lb. bulk pork sausage (1/2 c.)
Flour
Shortening
2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans beef broth
2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans water

Crumble bread into crumbs. Add nutmeg, salt, sugar, allspice and pepper and mix well. Beat egg slightly and add to bread mixture. Combine with meats. Roll mixture into very small balls. Flour lightly. Heat 2 to 3 tablespoons shortening in large skillet. Add meatballs, half at a time and brown on all sides. Transfer meatballs to a dutch oven. Pour in beef broth and water. Cover pot and simmer meatballs until tender, about 1 hour. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
