1/2 c. soft shortening
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. all-purpose flour
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients. Add flour last. Roll in teaspoon balls. Place cookies 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake 5-6 minutes. Press a dent in each with thumb. Bake 5-6 minutes more. Bake at 350 degrees. Ice with confectioners' sugar icing.

Confectioners' sugar
Milk
Food coloring

Mix to desired consistency and put in "thumbprint" of cookie.
