BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. smoked ham, cut in cubes
1 1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. chopped celery
1 c. chopped carrots
3 tbsp. bacon drippings or oil
4 c. chicken broth
3 cans Great Northern beans, drained
16 oz. can tomatoes, drained, cut in pieces
1/2 tsp. rosemary
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 bay leaf
Pepper to taste

In large saucepan saute ham, onions, carrots and celery in bacon drippings or oil about 10 minutes or until onions are tender. Stir in broth, beans, tomatoes and spices. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, simmer 30 minutes. You can substitute 1 can of kidney beans for 1 can of Northern beans.
