CHRISTMAS RIBBON COOKIES 
1 c. butter (half and half)
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 to 3 c. flour
Red food color
1/4 c. chopped candied red cherries
Green food color
1/4 c. chopped candied green cherries
1/4 c. chopped walnuts
1 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted, cooled

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, baking powder, vanilla, and salt; gradually mix in flour to make a stiff dough.

Divide dough into thirds. Add red food color and red cherries to a third, green food color and green cherries to a third, and walnuts and melted chocolate to a third. Remove roll of wax paper from its box; line box with waxed paper. Pack chocolate dough in bottom of box; top with layers of green and red dough. Refrigerate covered overnight.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Remove dough from carton and cut lengthwise in half. Cut each bar crosswise into 1/8 inch slices; place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake until edges are barely golden, 12-15 minutes. Cool.
