CHOCOLATE CHIP MELT-AWAYS
1 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate morsels
Additional white sugar
1 c. vegetable oil
1 c. sifted powdered sugar
4 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Combine butter, oil, sugars and eggs in a large mixing bowl; beat until smooth. Combine flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt; add to butter mixture. Beat until smooth; stir in vanilla and chocolate morsels. Shape mixture into 1 inch balls; roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets; bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool cookies on wire racks. Yield: about 8 1/2 dozen cookies. (Note: Mixture may be chilled in refrigerator to be able to form balls more easily.)
