HERMIT COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
4 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. sugar, cream well
1/2 c. molasses
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. raisins

Cream sugar and shortening, then add eggs. Sift in flour and mix well. Add molasses and all spices and raisins. Roll on waxed paper like a sausage (2 inches thick). Refrigerate (overnight if possible). Slice and place on greased cookie sheet (1 1/2 inches thick). Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. They come out soft but harden as they cool. Enjoy.
