OLD FASHIONED APPLE PIE | |
Crust: 2 cups all purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. water 2/3 c. Crisco shortening Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Remove 1/3 cup of the mixture and mix with the 1/4 cup water. Add Crisco to the remaining dry ingredients. Combine both mixtures and working as little as possible roll into two crusts. Filling: 1/2 to 1 cup sugar, depending on the sweetness of the apples 6 to 8 apples (cooking type) 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. milk Peel and slice the apples (thin) and mix together with sugar and spices. Spoon apples into the bottom crust. Add the top crust, cutting a few small slits in the top crust. Spoon milk over the top crust and bake at 375 degrees for above 40 minutes or until done. The recipe for pie crust may be used for other type and kinds of pies. |
