BOSTON BROWN BREAD 
1 1/2 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. brown sugar
1 rounded tbsp. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. molasses
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 2/3 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 c. nuts

Pour water over raisins and simmer. Cream brown sugar, shortening, egg, and molasses. Add dry ingredients and raisins with liquid; mix well. Add nuts. Bake at 350 degrees in greased and floured cans for 1 hour.
