MEXICAN CHILI CON CARNE 
2 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 to 2 lbs. ground beef
1/2 c. thinly sliced onions
1 (14 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
1 (16 oz.) can kidney beans
Salt and pepper
1 or 2 tbsp. chili powder

Place fat, Crisco or whatever, in skillet; brown beef. Add onions and cook until tender. Drain off most of the fat. Add tomatoes, beans and seasonings. Mix well. Simmer slowly 45 minutes.
