CHERRY WALNUT BARS 
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. butter, softened
2 eggs
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 (2 oz.) jar maraschino cherries
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
1/2 c. flaked coconut (optional)

Mix flour, sugar, and butter until crumbly. Press into 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Blend eggs, sugar, salt, baking powder, and vanilla. Drain and chop cherries; keep liquid. Stir remaining ingredients. Put on baked crust. Return to oven for 25 minutes. Combine 1 tablespoon butter and 1 cup powdered sugar with some of the cherry juice liquid. Mix to spreading consistency. Frost the bars.
