MONKEY BREAD
1 1/2 yeast cakes or 2 packages dry yeast
1 c. milk, heated to lukewarm
4 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter, melted
3 1/2 c. sifted flour (approximately)

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk. Stir in sugar, salt, and butter. Add flour and beat well. Let rise until almost double in size. Punch down and roll out on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thick. Cut in 2 inch pieces (round, diamond, or square). Dip each piece in melted butter and lay pieces overlapping in buttered loaf pans, until pan is half full. Let rise until double in size. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve loaf uncut, just let people pull off what they wish. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Note: If butter is used instead of butter, increase salt to 1 1/2 teaspoons and add some salt to the melted butter.
