LENTIL CHILI 
1 lb. lentils
5 c. water
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 bay leaf
1/2 lb. lean hamburger
1 med. onion, chopped
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 can (15 oz.) tomato sauce
1 tsp. cumin
1 tbsp. chili powder
1 can (14 1/2 oz.) whole tomatoes, chopped

Wash lentils. In 4 quart pan combine lentils, water, salt and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cover. In frying pan brown hamburger. Drain off fat by putting browned hamburger in a strainer and running hot tap water over it. In same frying pan, saute onion in a little oil until translucent. Add hamburger, onion and remaining ingredients to lentils. Cover and simmer 1 hour. Serve with lots of shredded Cheddar cheese and chopped onion on top. Serves 4-6.
