AUTUMN APPLE BREAD 
1/4 c. shortening
2/3 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 c. coarsely grated raw apples
2/3 c. chopped walnuts

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs. Sift next 4 ingredients; add with apples to egg mixture. Stir in nuts.

Bake in greased and floured loaf pan (9x5x3) in preheated 350 degree oven for 50-60 minutes. Makes 1 loaf.

Variation: Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 2/3 cup raisins.
