BUTTON COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
2/3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, beaten
2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening with sugar. Add vanilla, salt and egg. Blend well. Sift with cream of tartar and soda. Add to creamed mixture. Make small balls and roll in finely crushed graham crackers, Corn flakes, or shredded coconut.

Place on cookie sheet, press down a bit and make dent in center of each cookie. Place a bit of apricot jam or jelly in the dent. Bake at 375 degrees about 12 minutes.
