1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/4 c. plain flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. sweet milk
8 egg whites, beaten

Cream butter, add sugar and beat until light. Add vanilla. Add combined dry ingredients alternately with milk, beating well. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour batter into 4 prepared pans. Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes.

ICING:

8 egg yolks
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. chopped candied cherries
1 c. blackberry wine
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients except wine and vanilla. Cook on low heat until thick, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add wine and vanilla. Let cool. Spread between and on top of layers and sides of cake.
