BUCKEYES: FAVORITE FOOD OF
WOLVERINES
 
3 (1 lb.) boxes confectioners' sugar
2 lb. Jiff peanut butter
1 lb. butter
3 tbsp. vanilla
1 layer paraffin (Gulfwax, 3/4 bar)
3 (7 or 8 oz.) Hershey bars

Blend butter and vanilla into peanut butter until creamy. Gradually add confectioners sugar a little at a time. Knead until blended. Form into 1-inch balls and set aside. Add a few drops of water if dough is crumbly.

Melt chocolate in top of double boiler over hot, not boiling water. Combine with melted wax. Insert toothpick into ball of candy and dip into chocolate, leaving a small circle unfrosted around the toothpick, resembling a buckeye (horse chestnut).

Place on wax paper and remove toothpick IMMEDIATELY. Store in plastic bags in refrigerator.
