DATE & WALNUT LOAF 
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. dates & walnuts
1/2 c. butter
1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice

Melt butter, add hot water and mix. Add sugar, dates and walnuts and finally the dry ingredients. Bake for 3/4 hour at 350 to 400 degrees. Freezes well.
