KENTUCKY JAM CAKE 
1 c. soft butter
2 c. sugar
5 eggs
1 c. seedless blackberry jam
3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chopped dates or raisins
Caramel Frosting

Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add jam and beat well. Add sifted flour, soda, salt, cloves and allspice alternately with buttermilk, beating until smooth. Stir in nuts and dates. Pour into four 9-inch layer pans, lined on the bottom with paper. Bake in moderate 325 degree oven about 35 minutes. Cool and spread frosting between layers and on top of cake.
