WHOLE WHEAT AND HONEY ROLLS | |
2 c. boiling water 1/2 c. honey 1/3 c. warm water 2 beaten eggs 3 1/2 c. whole wheat flour 3 1/2 c. white flour 1 c. butter 2 tsp. salt 2 pkgs. yeast 1 tsp. baking powder Put butter and honey in a large bowl and pour boiling water over all. When cool, add baking powder, salt and eggs. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and add to the above mixture. Add whole wheat and white flour alternately. Turn dough onto floured board and knead 10 minutes or more. Place in a large, greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled, approximately 1 1/2 hours. Punch down dough, turn onto floured board. Shape into rolls and place rolls well apart on baking sheet. Cover and let rise until double, 30 to 45 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on size. Brush tops with melted butter. Makes 50+ dinner rolls or 38 hamburger buns. |
