COLONIAL INNKEEPER'S PIE 
1 1/2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
1/2 c. water
1/4 c. butter
2/3 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
1 unbaked pie shell with high rim
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. butter
1 egg
nuts

Melt chocolate in water. Add 2/3 cup sugar and bring to a boil. Remove and stir in 1/4 cup butter and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Let cool. Blend flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. Add 1/4 cup butter, milk and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Beat 2 minutes. Pour into pie shell. Gently spoon chocolate mixture over batter. Do not mix. Sprinkle with nuts.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
