1 3/4 c. sugar
1 3/4 tsp. baking soda
2/3 c. cocoa
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Put in mixing bowl. Add 2/3 cup shortening, 1 cup water, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes and add 3 eggs.

Bake 25 minutes at 350°F or until cake is done.

This cake is every bit as quick and easy to make as a cake mix and the cake is very dark chocolately brown.

Makes two 8" rounds.
