CHINESE CHEWS 
1ST MIXTURE:

1 c. butter
1/3 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. sifted flour

Cream sugar and butter. Blend in flour. Pat into greased 12 x 8 x 2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees.

2ND MIXTURE:

4 eggs, separated
2 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. shredded coconut
3/4 c. walnuts, chopped

Separate eggs. Beat yolks until thick, gradually add brown sugar. Beat well. Add coconut and nuts, beat well. Fold the stiffly beaten egg whites into this mixture. Spread over baked mixture and return to oven for 30 minutes more. Cut into squares while warm. Dust with powdered sugar.
