ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
1 can coconut
1 lb. dates
1 lb. candy orange slices
2 c. chopped pecans
4 c. sifted flour
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/3 c. buttermilk

Cut up dates and orange slices; dredge dates, candy and nuts in 1/4 cup flour. Cream butter and add sugar gradually. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift soda with remaining 3 3/4 cups flour and add alternately to batter with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour. Fold in candy, dates, and nuts. Bake in a greased tube pan about 1 hour and 50 minutes in 300 degree oven. Top with orange syrup. Makes one 6 pound cake.

ORANGE SYRUP ICING FOR ORANGE SLICE CAKE:

2 c. sugar
1 1/3 c. fresh orange juice

Combine sugar and orange juice. Heat to boiling point and pour over hot cake. Let cool completely in pan before removing.
