JULIE VOSS' JEWISH APPLE CAKE 
4 apples, peeled & sifted
2 tsp. cinnamon
5 tsp. sugar
3 c. flour, sifted (Roundy's)
2 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. Roundy's vegetable oil
4 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. Roundy's vanilla
3 tsp. baking powder
4 tbsp. orange juice

In a small bowl, peel and slice apples. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons cinnamon and 5 teaspoons, sugar on top. Set aside. In a large bowl mix flour, remaining sugar, oil, eggs, salt, vanilla, baking powder and juice. Batter should be thick. (Add 1 or 2 teaspoons orange juice if too thick.) Grease tube or Bundt pan, put in layer of batter, then apple mix, then batter, then apple mix, etc. (Usually 4 layers batter and 3 layers of apples.) Bake 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Let cool. Drizzle icing over top.
