GERTRUDE'S OATMEAL BREAD | |
1 cake yeast 3/4 c. warm water 1 tsp. sugar 1 1/2 c. boiling water 2 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. butter 1 c. quick cooking oatmeal 1/4 c. molasses 1/4 c. brown sugar 5 c. white flour Dissolve yeast in warm water with a teaspoon sugar. Pour boiling water over salt, butter and oatmeal. Let cool. Add molasses, brown sugar and flour. Let rise once and punch down. When it gets light again make into two loaves. When loaves are double in size bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 50 minutes. Butter bread when it is taken from the oven. |
