MOLASSES SPONGE COOKIES | |
1 c. oil or shortening 1 c. sugar 1 c. molasses 1 egg 1 c. sour milk 2 c. flour 4 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. ginger 1/2 tsp. cloves 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. vanilla Combine oil, sugar, molasses. Mix well. Add egg, vanilla. Alternately add milk and dry ingredients. Add enough more flour to batter to enable to roll out thick. Roll out on lightly floured board to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out cookies with cookie cutter. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Sprinkle tops with sugar prior to baking, if desired. |
