OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 1/4 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
3 c. reg. oats, uncooked
1/2 c. currants or raisins
1/2 c. sugar
1 lg. egg
1/4 tsp. salt

Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer. Gradually add sugars, beating well. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.

Combine flour, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg; gradually add to butter mixture, mixing well. Stir in oats and currants.

Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes or until slightly browned. Cool slightly on cookie sheets; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Yield: about 4 dozen.
