WELSH COOKIES 
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. shortening
1/3 c. milk
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
3 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. currants
2 c. flour

Cream shortening with sugar. Add remaining ingredients, mix thoroughly. roll out, 1/2-inch thick or less, on a lightly floured board. Cut with a round cutter or water glass. Bake on warm, lightly greased, griddle approximately 2 to 3 minutes each side. Remove from griddle and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Makes 3 to 4 dozen.
